know and become enlightened
“Room 4 had a splash-tastic day at the pool! The children enjoyed swimming, floating, kicking, and practicing strokes while learning important water safety skills. Fun and learning went hand in hand as they built confidence in the water through games and activities.”

Room 4 children enjoyed their weekly library session, exploring books, discovering new stories, and building a love for reading. They practiced choosing books, sharing stories, and developing great reading habits.
In writing, they discussed their Draft 1 pieces with peers, using sentence starters from a resource sheet to express ideas more clearly. With helpful suggestions, they moved on to Draft 2, making their writing even better. In reading, students explored a text and wrote a summary, focusing on both letter formation and comprehension skills. It was a productive week of collaboration, creativity, and learning.
We celebrated Maths Week with plenty of hands-on fun! Children measured length using non-standard methods, such as using their hands to compare different objects. They also weighed sandwiches from their lunchboxes and became detectives to observe which items were heavy or light. It was a fun and successful week, full of engaging activities that brought maths to life.
We celebrated Cook Islands Language Week with colour, music, and pride. Our children prepared beautiful Ei Katu (head garlands) and Cook Islands flags, then came together to sing a song and the national anthem. It was a joyful celebration of culture, creativity, and connection.
We welcomed guest speakers to share with our students the Mountains to Sea — a topic very close to our hearts. They spoke about the importance of life in the sea, how to protect our land, and how these are deeply connected. This learning beautifully intertwined with our curriculum, giving students the chance to explore real-world issues. The children thoroughly enjoyed the fun activities and learnt through hands-on interaction and meaningful discussion.
What a fun and welcoming Maths Night we had! It was wonderful to see so many parents join us and take an interest in how we teach maths in our classrooms. At Pukeatua, we are always happy to showcase our teaching strategies with whānau so we can work together to know our students well and adjust to the diverse needs they bring.
In Writing, we focused on persuasive texts by learning to write strong reasons with a clear topic sentence and organising them into well-structured paragraphs.
In Maths, we explored the strand of Mass through hands-on investigations, comparing light and heavy objects and using problem-solving strategies to explain our thinking.
Our weekly Library visit was full of fun and curiosity. Students enjoyed exploring shelves, sharing book recommendations with friends, and finding stories that truly captured their imagination. It was wonderful to see them moving beyond just picking books for their bright covers and instead choosing ones with stories that sparked excitement and wonder. The room was buzzing with quiet chatter, page-turning, and the joy of discovering new adventures.
