CLASSROOMS
Pukeatua currently has 8 teaching classrooms filled with our delightful students and staff. Student work is proudly displayed on the walls. There are 3 immersion classes and 5 general school classes.
We have a purpose built Integrated Technology Block that has specific areas designated for Art / Hard Materials, ICT, Cooking and Performance / Soft Materials. Staff and students across the school use these spaces to support student learning across the curriculum. Integrated Unit plans allow teachers the opportunity to maximise these spaces.
INFORMATION & TECHNOLOGY
This is a priority for our school and we are continually making progress towards realising our vision of providing a comprehensive ICT opportunity for all students.
We continue to purchase Chromebooks to meet our long term goal of having Chromebooks readily available in every class.
Our new modern Integrated Technology Block has a dedicated computer room. The availability of apps provide numerous creative opportunities for students to learn, practise skills and follow inquiry.
We also have iPads available. Each class has desktop computers available in their classrooms.
LIBRARY
Our Library was built in 2002. We have an extensive and varied book range which caters for the interests of our learners and makes our library a popular place for our students. It is open during two lunchtimes a week. The dedication of our librarian, Mrs Deys, makes this space special and unique to Pukeatua. We often have other schools visiting to view our wonderful library.
PLAYGROUNDS
Pukeatua School grounds include three purpose built adventure playgrounds; one for years 7-8, one for years 4-8 and one for years 0-3. The most recent and largest playground is called the Fitness Extreme and allows for numerous students to be active. It can also be incorporated into fitness programmes with specifically designed muscle strengthening areas for our older students.
We have expansive grassed areas which always surprises visitors as they come down our driveway.
We have “Wheels Days” on a Monday and Friday. Students are welcome to bring their scooters, skateboards, and skates and use them in our designated area.
SCHOOL HALL
We are very lucky to have a huge school hall. This allows us to ensure our P.E. and fitness programmes can continue during wet weather.
Whanau/parent fun and educational evenings also utilise this space.
Perceptual Motor Programme for our new entrant classes is held in here twice a week.
Kidz Hub Before School, After School, and Holiday programme is based in the hall.
SCHOOL GARDENS
A recent addition from 2014 is the development of our three gardens.
Community Cultural Garden
Maara Kai or our sustainable community pallet gardens
Garden to Table Community Garden
And our brand new school orchard which was planted in May 2015.
We believe in the importance of our students’ learning to be environmentally responsible within our community gardens. Our user friendly hands on gardens are supported by various groups within the Wainuiomata community. Worm farms, bug hotels, and composting encourage a healthy growing environment.
Smart water use from the retention of water from the pool roof supports the sustainable nature of our gardens.
We appreciate our wonderful whanau and wider community support in these new schoolwide initiatives.
