Classrooms
Pukeatua currently has eight vibrant classrooms filled with enthusiastic students and staff, with student work proudly displayed throughout. The school includes three immersion classes and five general classrooms.
Integrated Block
The school has dedicated spaces for Art/Hard Materials, ICT, Cooking, and Performance/Soft Materials. These areas are used by staff and students to enhance learning across the curriculum.
Information & Technology
Pukeatua offers a comprehensive ICT programme for all students, with Chromebooks available in every classroom. Our dedicated computer room and wide range of apps give students numerous creative opportunities to learn, practise skills, and explore inquiry-based projects.
Library
Our library, established in 2002, offers an extensive and diverse collection of books that cater to our students’ interests. This makes it a popular and engaging space for learners across the school.
Playground
Pukeatua School grounds feature three purpose-built playgrounds for different year levels, including the large Fitness Extreme area that supports active play and strength-building for older students. Our expansive grass fields and regular “Wheels Days,” where students can bring scooters, skateboards, and skates, provide plenty of opportunities for fun and physical activity.
School Hall
Our large school hall ensures that P.E. and fitness programmes continue regardless of the weather and is also used for whānau events and learning evenings. It hosts the Perceptual Motor Programme for new entrants and serves as the base for the Kidz Hub before school, after school, and holiday programmes.
School Garden
Established in 2014, our school gardens include the Community Cultural Garden, Māra Kai pallet gardens, and the Garden to Table Community Garden, along with our orchard planted in May 2015. These hands-on spaces teach students environmental responsibility and sustainability, supported by our wider Wainuiomata community through initiatives like composting, worm farms, bug hotels, and smart water use.
Basketball Hoops
Our new basketball hoops are bringing energy and excitement to the playground, encouraging students to stay active and engaged. They help develop teamwork, coordination, and confidence while promoting a fun and healthy lifestyle.
Cycle Tracks
A bicycle rack is available for students who ride to school, and it is essential that a safety lock is used. In line with school policy and New Zealand law, all cyclists must wear a helmet approved by the NZ Standards Association and ensure their bike is safe to ride. We also have a new cycle track, providing a safe space for students to practise riding skills and enjoy active, healthy play.
Safety Gates
Our pedestrian and vehicle gates have secure swimming pool-style latches and are kept closed during school hours to ensure all children remain safely on site.
Skateboards
/Skates
On Mondays and Fridays children may bring skateboards, skates, roller blades and scooters to school. They are only to be used on the big concrete asphalt area in front of the hall.
Sensory Class
Our sensory room provides a safe, calm, and supportive environment where students can regulate their emotions, manage sensory needs, and prepare themselves for learning.
